<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Just finished this 1930's vintage mahogany china cabinet in French Linen with clear and dark wax.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I love to paint dark pieces of furniture, especially mahogany, because when you sand the chalk paint back there is such a contrast with the wood and paint.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The detailing of the furniture really shows through.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Zep8G726OOA/VfG6_fIwy4I/AAAAAAAAL0U/RB0sTg52Ark/s1600/need%2Ba%2Blatte%2Bmom%2B%2Bfrench%2Blinen%2Bchina%2Bcabinet%2B%25287%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Zep8G726OOA/VfG6_fIwy4I/AAAAAAAAL0U/RB0sTg52Ark/s640/need%2Ba%2Blatte%2Bmom%2B%2Bfrench%2Blinen%2Bchina%2Bcabinet%2B%25287%2529.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I have also learned to shellac these pieces because if you don't the red tannins will bleed through.<br />
<br />
Every.<br />

Single.<br />

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lsDQnY_HNX0/VfG6_0vu1TI/AAAAAAAAL0Y/BNELNbSp10E/s1600/need%2Ba%2Blatte%2Bmom%2B%2Bfrench%2Blinen%2Bchina%2Bcabinet%2B%25288%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lsDQnY_HNX0/VfG6_0vu1TI/AAAAAAAAL0Y/BNELNbSp10E/s640/need%2Ba%2Blatte%2Bmom%2B%2Bfrench%2Blinen%2Bchina%2Bcabinet%2B%25288%2529.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
French Linen has become a favorite of mine lately.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It does help that gray is a hot seller right not.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
After sanding china cabinet for over an hour to get the surface really smooth I waxed with a mix of dark and clear wax. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Even though I love working with Annie Sloan waxes and paint I am not a purist. I have been using Johnson's Past Wax and mixing it with ASCP Dark Wax lately and I kinda like the results. The bonus is that it is not nearly as expensive.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-OLdZFYvhy6M/VfG7AciaG7I/AAAAAAAAL0g/UeSY-ked7s8/s1600/need%2Ba%2Blatte%2Bmom%2B%2Bfrench%2Blinen%2Bchina%2Bcabinet%2B%25289%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-OLdZFYvhy6M/VfG7AciaG7I/AAAAAAAAL0g/UeSY-ked7s8/s640/need%2Ba%2Blatte%2Bmom%2B%2Bfrench%2Blinen%2Bchina%2Bcabinet%2B%25289%2529.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Fortunately this piece had all the original hardware and the scroll work on the glass doors was in excellent condition. This is a good thing, because honestly, the scroll work is a PAIN in the rear to paint.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-RJe18VthWho/VfG64mP0JYI/AAAAAAAALzg/wVSj_d90pzo/s1600/need%2Ba%2Blatte%2Bmom%2B%2Bfrench%2Blinen%2Bchina%2Bcabinet%2B%252810%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-RJe18VthWho/VfG64mP0JYI/AAAAAAAALzg/wVSj_d90pzo/s640/need%2Ba%2Blatte%2Bmom%2B%2Bfrench%2Blinen%2Bchina%2Bcabinet%2B%252810%2529.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
To add more character to the finish I used a small paint brush to paint dark wax into all the corners and crevices.<br />
<br />

A fun dresser for a preteen girl,<br />
<br />
A little funky and modern. Dog not included. Maybe. Depends on the day.<br />

Love the original hardware. They look like drop earings.<br />

<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fHfr6qiBQmg/VS_bTEfyXdI/AAAAAAAALtM/V-KeP0Zn7Wc/s1600/_KSM3392.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fHfr6qiBQmg/VS_bTEfyXdI/AAAAAAAALtM/V-KeP0Zn7Wc/s1600/_KSM3392.JPG" height="640" width="548" /></a></div>
I found the multi use cabinet at an estate sale. A piece of furniture that you would think would be very common place but I had never seen before.<br />
<br />
I wonder if it was used in the kitchen as a jelly cabinet or in a living room to store valuables? It does have a lock on it but of course I do not have the key.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sXVW4v99JBc/VS_bTX42QOI/AAAAAAAALtQ/MzRfLF9mamo/s1600/_KSM3393.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sXVW4v99JBc/VS_bTX42QOI/AAAAAAAALtQ/MzRfLF9mamo/s1600/_KSM3393.JPG" height="640" width="454" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I had to seal the top with shellac prior to painting because of some scratches that went through the finish. This era of furniture is known for bleeding through the paint if it is not sealed before hand leaving orangish red blobs all over the paint. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mWocrGE10AA/VS_bS_jCIeI/AAAAAAAALtI/UpcThwopMRU/s1600/_KSM3395.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mWocrGE10AA/VS_bS_jCIeI/AAAAAAAALtI/UpcThwopMRU/s1600/_KSM3395.JPG" height="590" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
After using Shellac on the cabinet I painted it with Annie Sloan's French Linen Chalk paint.<br />
<br />
After painting I sanded the entire piece with a fine grit sanding block using a little more pressure on the edges to get the wood to show through.<br />
<br />
I then used Min wax Finishing Wax over the entire surface and buffed until smooth. <br />
<br />
The final coat is a Lime Wax by Maison Blanche. By using this Lime Wax it gave the surface a lot more dimension and interest.<br />
<br />
This color in the past has never been a favorite of mine but I painted a secretary a few weeks ago using this same technique and I kinda fell in love with it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Exm5uVAPoNc/VS_bUQWujVI/AAAAAAAALtg/3O-XB8xkHCo/s1600/_KSM3397.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Exm5uVAPoNc/VS_bUQWujVI/AAAAAAAALtg/3O-XB8xkHCo/s1600/_KSM3397.JPG" height="640" width="422" /></a></div>
This paint is so smooth to the touch that I just love running my hands over the surface. So smooth without being shiny.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-YFQTahwlf-c/VPJfbsDbAKI/AAAAAAAALo4/AdBYLdfXzf8/s1600/_KSM3243.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="536" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-YFQTahwlf-c/VPJfbsDbAKI/AAAAAAAALo4/AdBYLdfXzf8/s1600/_KSM3243.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
A pure white dresser that is painted in Maison Blanche's Magnolia with clear wax.<br />
I do not usually use this color because it is so finicky. It needs to me on the right piece because it is not very forgiving.<br />
I have applied to to other pieces that I have painted and ended up redoing it with a color. Maybe it is just because I like color on my furniture. <br />
Who knows.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LWNDHP2T_wM/VPJfbqo5NwI/AAAAAAAALow/Tn3gyEgOmns/s1600/_KSM3244.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LWNDHP2T_wM/VPJfbqo5NwI/AAAAAAAALow/Tn3gyEgOmns/s1600/_KSM3244.JPG" width="518" /></a></div>
I had considered leaving the drawers in the natural wood because it was a pretty Birdseye maple.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HM9zB-3OQQ8/VPJfb7JL-LI/AAAAAAAALo0/kGyAiJftlxU/s1600/_KSM3254.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="634" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HM9zB-3OQQ8/VPJfb7JL-LI/AAAAAAAALo0/kGyAiJftlxU/s1600/_KSM3254.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
And sure there are people who are shuddering at the fact that I painted it.<br />
But they will get over it.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IhzcHE9uT00/VPJfcQQYBuI/AAAAAAAALpA/V8oX6ptzQus/s1600/_KSM3255.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IhzcHE9uT00/VPJfcQQYBuI/AAAAAAAALpA/V8oX6ptzQus/s1600/_KSM3255.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
I do think that it would make a pretty changing table in a nursery.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-A2laKMKEp08/VPJfcpuFsQI/AAAAAAAALpI/AQ9HGhHYAwY/s1600/_KSM3256.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-A2laKMKEp08/VPJfcpuFsQI/AAAAAAAALpI/AQ9HGhHYAwY/s1600/_KSM3256.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
I wish I had been into painting when I was decorating my nursery for my little ones, it would have been much easier and affordable.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-swOsSEZ6v_w/VPJfc3q4FWI/AAAAAAAALpM/rxFJxBy4hjg/s1600/_KSM3257.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-swOsSEZ6v_w/VPJfc3q4FWI/AAAAAAAALpM/rxFJxBy4hjg/s1600/_KSM3257.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
But 17 years ago we were not doing fun stuff like this. You had the traditional changing table and you would not have dreamed about using old furniture. That would have been pure crazy.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3PhI37zsRQk/VPJfc4XnKmI/AAAAAAAALpQ/ohiaeqkqgZc/s1600/_KSM3260.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3PhI37zsRQk/VPJfc4XnKmI/AAAAAAAALpQ/ohiaeqkqgZc/s1600/_KSM3260.JPG" width="394" /></a></div>
And I do like the original hardware but if you wanted to glam it up for a little girl it would be easy to do.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZR9AAFvwjVE/VPJfdUvukBI/AAAAAAAALpc/s6jjAD_zWvE/s1600/_KSM3262.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZR9AAFvwjVE/VPJfdUvukBI/AAAAAAAALpc/s6jjAD_zWvE/s1600/_KSM3262.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
When your little one is no longer in diapers and can be used as their dresser.<br />
Who woulda thunk?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />

A Federal style sideboard that has seen better days. <br />
Not too terrible, just a lot of normal wear and a little missing veneer.<br />
I guess if your between 70 and 80 years old you have earned the right to a little wear.<br />
<br />
The first thing I did with this piece is to scrape off the loose veneer with a putty knife, but there was a section that was re glued and was proving to be too stubborn to peel off. I used a hair dryer on high heat aimed directly at the section of veneer that I wanted to remove. The heat softened the glue and allowed me to scrape off the last bit.<br />
A little glue remained on the wood but with a little sandpaper it came right off.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KYI-Psx6Un0/VOfTBzsq6VI/AAAAAAAALmY/kf6WijeUmtM/s1600/_KSM3106.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KYI-Psx6Un0/VOfTBzsq6VI/AAAAAAAALmY/kf6WijeUmtM/s1600/_KSM3106.JPG" width="425" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
After I paint a piece I always sand it smooth, I don't like a bumpy finish. A lot of people do, I don't.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So when I sand the furniture I wanted other colors to come through and not just the color of the wood.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
With this piece I did a rough coat of Duck Egg Blue all over and then added random spots of Coco and Pure White. These colors compliment Country Grey which I used as the top coat.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GWsDHKRMBLI/VOfTAQVr-AI/AAAAAAAALmI/9anJL7WWuGg/s1600/_KSM3103.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="425" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GWsDHKRMBLI/VOfTAQVr-AI/AAAAAAAALmI/9anJL7WWuGg/s1600/_KSM3103.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It doesn't look pretty and it is not completely covered but it does not need to be.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-osnZimPqOgY/VOfS9BgHDeI/AAAAAAAALlw/hmKjhgGNiwM/s1600/_KSM3097.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-osnZimPqOgY/VOfS9BgHDeI/AAAAAAAALlw/hmKjhgGNiwM/s1600/_KSM3097.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
Some of the paint is thicker and this will make it a little raised when I paint the final coat of Country Grey.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="background: #E4F0F4; line-height: 11.1pt; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: justify;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background: #E4F0F4; line-height: 11.1pt; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; line-height: 11.1pt;">A young woman went to her mother and told her about her life and
how things were so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to
make it and wanted to give up. She was tired of fighting and struggling.
It seemed as one problem was solved, a new one arose.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; line-height: 107%;"><br />
<span style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: #e4f0f4; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial;">Her mother took her to the kitchen. She
filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots came
to boil. In the first she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs,
and in the last she placed ground coffee beans, She let them sit and boil;
without saying a word.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: #e4f0f4; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial;">In about twenty minutes she turned off the
burners. She fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She pulled the
eggs out and placed them in a bowl.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: #e4f0f4; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial;">Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it
in a bowl. Turning to her daughter, she asked, "Tell me what you
see."</span><br />
<br />
<span style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: #e4f0f4; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial;">“Carrots, eggs and coffee," she replied.
Her mother brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did
and noted that they were soft. The mother then asked the daughter to take an
egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard-boiled
egg.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: #e4f0f4; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial;">Finally, the mother asked the daughter to sip
the coffee. The daughter smiled as she tasted its rich aroma. The daughter then
asked, "What does it mean, mother?"</span><br />
<br />
<span style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: #e4f0f4; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial;">Her mother explained that each of these
objects faced the same adversity: boiling water. Each reacted differently. The
carrots went in strong hard and unrelenting. However, after being subjected to
the boiling water, it softened and became weak. The egg had been fragile. Its
thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior, but after sitting through
the boiling water, its inside became hardened. The ground coffee beans were
unique, however. After they were in the boiling water, they changed the
water.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: #e4f0f4; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial;">"Which are you?" she asked her
daughter. When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot,
an egg or a coffee bean? </span><br />
<br />
<span style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: #e4f0f4; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial;">Think of this: Which am I? Am I the carrot
that seems strong, but with pain and adversity do I wilt and become soft and
lose my strength?</span><br />
<br />
<span style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: #e4f0f4; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial;">Am I the egg that starts with a malleable
heart, but changes with the heat? Did I have a fluid spirit, but after a death,
a breakup, a financial hardship or some other trial, have I become hardened and
stiff? Does my shell look the same, but on the inside am I bitter and tough
with a stiff spirit and hardened heart?</span><br />
<br />
<span style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: #e4f0f4; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial;">Or am I like the coffee bean? The bean
actually changes the hot water, the very circumstance that brings the pain.
When the water gets hot, it releases the fragrance and flavor. If you are like
the bean, when things are at their worst, you get better and change the
situation around you. When the hour is the darkest and trials are their
greatest, do you elevate yourself to another level? How do you handle
adversity? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?</span><br />
<br />
<span style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: #e4f0f4; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial;">May you have enough happiness to make you
sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human and
enough hope to make you happy.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: #e4f0f4; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial;">The happiest of people don't necessarily have
the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their
way. The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past; you can't
go forward in life until you let go of your past failures and heartaches.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: #e4f0f4; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial;">When you were born, you were crying and
everyone around you was smiling.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: #e4f0f4; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial;">Live your life so at the end, you're the one
who is smiling and everyone around you is crying. It's easier to build a child
than repair an adult.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: #e4f0f4; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial;">May we all be COFFEE.</span></span><o:p></o:p></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Our original plan was to go to Cataloochee Tube World on Christmas eve day. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
But it rained. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
And had a few thunderstorms for good measure.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
We thought it best not to be outside, on the side of a mountain, with a thunderstorm going on.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I had purchased our tickets on line ahead of time because they sell out fast and I didn't want to experience a National Lampoon's Vacation moment. (For those not familiar with the movie Chevy Chase takes his family to Wally World and they are closed.)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Cataloochee was extremely nice and helpful allowing us to change our tickets beforehand to another day. We were not allowed to change the time but that was fine by us.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
The tickets are $25.00 per person for an hour and forty five minutes. It was the perfect amount of time. To find out if tickets are available and to purchase on line click <a href="https://www.isalessite.com/cataloochee/Catalog/Ticket?ArrivalDate=01%2F05%2F2015%2005%3A00%3A00&GroupNo=0&GroupCodeNo=0" target="_blank">here</a> . You cannot purchase tickets on line the day of and I believe within 24 hours.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
My desk space has been a work in progress since we moved into this house 3 years ago. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I think this is the 4th desk that I have attempted to make work and I think I may have finally found the right fit.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
This is an old Cypress board that was in my grandfather's garage for at least 75 years. It is from the old water towers that would line the railroad tracks. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Story has it that he was going to use it in a boat.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Who knows. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Not me, that is for sure.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-i4ce1kwJM2s/VKcj60SbFYI/AAAAAAAALiA/MR_aG5Y2aU8/s1600/_KSM2319.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-i4ce1kwJM2s/VKcj60SbFYI/AAAAAAAALiA/MR_aG5Y2aU8/s1600/_KSM2319.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
It is a very rough cut slab that is 12 feet by 3 feet.<br />
A hefty chunk of wood.<br />
<br />
My husband and I moved this baby from Minnesota to Virginia in the middle of the winter. Our trailer was only 10 feet long so it hung out a little bit.<br />
<br />
It sat in our garage for 4 years while I tried to figure out what to use it for. Birds made a nest on it.<br />
<br />
Then it made the trip from Culpeper, Virginia to Asheville, North Carolina via moving truck where is sat in my basement for another 3 years.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-b8YAnZSnAzI/VKcj7szma2I/AAAAAAAALiE/eJKAqpz2AiI/s1600/_KSM2322.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-b8YAnZSnAzI/VKcj7szma2I/AAAAAAAALiE/eJKAqpz2AiI/s1600/_KSM2322.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
It is a huge piece of wood. I had a few woodworkers suggest cutting it.<br />
<br />
That was not going to happen.<br />
<br />
After a lot of thought I decided to head to Habitat for Humanity to see if I could find a base for the desk. I figured that built in cabinets that were made for desks would work great. Thankfully I was able to find two cabinets that were exactly alike and were file cabinets with drawers.<br />
<br />
Perfect size, perfect height.<br />
<br />
More importantly perfect price...$15.00 each! Score!<br />
<br />
As a trial run to see if it would work I placed the top on the base and used it for about a month.<br />
It was exactly what I wanted.<br />
<br />
After a month of using it and getting a lot of slivers it was time to sand it down.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-G0XD5x-g3w4/VKcj7oAYaII/AAAAAAAALiI/KSwumIEV_cI/s1600/_KSM2331.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-G0XD5x-g3w4/VKcj7oAYaII/AAAAAAAALiI/KSwumIEV_cI/s1600/_KSM2331.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
I ran lots of different ideas of finishes through my mind while I was sanding.<br />
Sand it all the way down?<br />
Just knock the big stuff off and keep the character?<br />
Stain, no stain.<br />
Sand one side, leave the other.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-D3L6foDPbV8/VKcj94endcI/AAAAAAAALiY/ZeEFD9m5vNE/s1600/_KSM2333.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-D3L6foDPbV8/VKcj94endcI/AAAAAAAALiY/ZeEFD9m5vNE/s1600/_KSM2333.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
By the time I had sanded for 5 hours.<br />
<br />
And used many pads of 60 grit, 120 grit, 220 grit sand paper I ended up sanding it smooth.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yO0MJyDxLbM/VKckAKJFPVI/AAAAAAAALig/KPDokMXfiiM/s1600/_KSM2334.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yO0MJyDxLbM/VKckAKJFPVI/AAAAAAAALig/KPDokMXfiiM/s1600/_KSM2334.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Sanding can be kind of mesmerizing when you start to see the grain coming though.<br />
<br />
Unfortunately Cypress wood does not have that pretty of a grain. But the feel of such smooth texture kept me going.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bAdNQfahEwA/VKckAYKxsbI/AAAAAAAALik/39jF6Rux83U/s1600/_KSM2335.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bAdNQfahEwA/VKckAYKxsbI/AAAAAAAALik/39jF6Rux83U/s1600/_KSM2335.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-JgVPYs0mkG4/VKYYkIkUfYI/AAAAAAAALho/oYlSo2U3zSU/s640/blogger-image--1475339387.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
By the time I was done sanding I had decided to stain it Honey by MinWax.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I figured it would be a nice light color, nothing too dark.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
And I had a whole quart of it in my cabinet. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-JgVPYs0mkG4/VKYYkIkUfYI/AAAAAAAALho/oYlSo2U3zSU/s640/blogger-image--1475339387.jpg" width="480" /><br />
<br />
Like the picture above? There was a LOT of sawdust generated.<br />
<br />
Below Martha is flashing the world.<br />
<br />
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-HR6NRnbfXNU/VKYYjHVXPrI/AAAAAAAALhg/Q5BJtkEosnk/s640/blogger-image--98092179.jpg" width="480" /><br />
<br />
No final picture of the after the sanding stage. Sorry.<br />
<br />
When I was done sanding and wiping it down with mineral spirits to make sure the surface was really clean I was ready to stain.<br />
<br />
Remember I said that I had an entire quart of Honey stain in the garage.<br />
<br />
I don't remember when I bought the stain and I was quite surprised that I had an entire quart but did not question it.<br />
<br />
I should have.<br />
<br />
I should have tested it on a small piece of wood.<br />
<br />
I should have listened to myself when I thought...hmmmm, seems kinda dark?<br />
<br />
I should have and I didn't.<br />
<br />
I was being impatient because I wanted to see it done.<br />
<br />
After I made the first swipe of stain across the freshly sanded board did I then remember....This is a mixture of stain I made from Mahogany, Ebony, Honey and some other color I had left over.<br />
<br />
This IS NOT going to be a light color.<br />
<br />
Oh, well.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-lwAwzxzbxF8/VKckYqZKnmI/AAAAAAAALiw/9ccnFsSKt_A/s1600/_KSM2401.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-lwAwzxzbxF8/VKckYqZKnmI/AAAAAAAALiw/9ccnFsSKt_A/s1600/_KSM2401.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
A lot more color that I had planned.<br />
<br />
But it works OK.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-SSuD4EOGQKU/VKckZ9V3sZI/AAAAAAAALi4/VbaPuiVNcb8/s1600/_KSM2410.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-SSuD4EOGQKU/VKckZ9V3sZI/AAAAAAAALi4/VbaPuiVNcb8/s1600/_KSM2410.JPG" height="640" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
And the finish is very smooth.<br />
<br />
No more slivers.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kzHmfPJ3Ymw/VKckZ-kmgII/AAAAAAAALi8/Pyr76NmE0Lo/s1600/_KSM2411.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kzHmfPJ3Ymw/VKckZ-kmgII/AAAAAAAALi8/Pyr76NmE0Lo/s1600/_KSM2411.JPG" height="640" width="426" /></a></div>

It gives you the dark black color without having to add tint to make it <i>really black.</i><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ufOFI6f5Jo4/VKWZEzlysII/AAAAAAAALfA/rCivSwMN9vA/s1600/Wrought%2BIron%2Bdresser.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ufOFI6f5Jo4/VKWZEzlysII/AAAAAAAALfA/rCivSwMN9vA/s1600/Wrought%2BIron%2Bdresser.jpg" width="274" /></a></div>
If you have used other black chalk paints you know what I am referring to.<br />
<br />
Annie Sloan's Graphite is a dark gray, almost black. Which is fine if you want to finish with a dark wax to get the darker color and a little color variation in your finish. I finished a maple cabinet in my kitchen with Graphite and dark wax and you can check it out<a href="http://needalattemom.blogspot.com/2012/04/painted-maple-cabinet-with-annie-sloan.html" target="_blank"> here.</a> I really like the finish on this piece but it does require a little more elbow grease.<br />
<br />
With the Wrought Iron I am able to use clear wax.<br />
<br />
Neither are wrong. Both give a great look.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-V5pg27eDbhk/VKWabgTBS9I/AAAAAAAALfM/rH4Wkwzj-Hc/s1600/00303_8W4dvCL3nG2_600x450.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-V5pg27eDbhk/VKWabgTBS9I/AAAAAAAALfM/rH4Wkwzj-Hc/s1600/00303_8W4dvCL3nG2_600x450.jpg" width="212" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Because I used a flash in these pictures the light has bounced off the surface giving it an ashy appearance. In person these color variations do not exist.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>

<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4DzL5OdJ0K0/VKWcLx6eXmI/AAAAAAAALfY/QccWJbP5h7M/s1600/01313_3aIHRqA2RRa_600x450.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4DzL5OdJ0K0/VKWcLx6eXmI/AAAAAAAALfY/QccWJbP5h7M/s1600/01313_3aIHRqA2RRa_600x450.jpg" width="212" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

I was hesitant to use these photos because of the light reflection and it does make it a little unattractive but oh well, Here they are.</div>

<br />
I was strolling through my photos and I stumbled across the Tuxedo Buffet. <br />
<br />
I had finished this piece about a year ago and never posted the pictures. Whoops.<br />

Just love how this piece turned out. The buffet was in really great condition and could have been left as is but what fun is that?<br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So school started, oh...about 2 weeks ago and I am now just getting around to posting pictures.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Slacker.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Thing is I can hardly look at my desk chair without cringing in pain and the thought of sitting in it to edit photos was not what I wanted to do.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">That and the fact that my kids were hardly cooperative in my taking their pictures.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> Sam has taken on the persona of a twit when it comes to having his picture taken. Full definition of a twit is a silly annoying person and that about sums up a 14 year old boy.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">And mumbles. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Sigh.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> Sophia of course is always ready to have her picture taken.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Starting her senior year. Hard to believe that is happening already.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I know this year is going to fly by and then she will be off to college.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Is it wrong that I have plans for her bedroom? Just kidding sweetheart, I will never change it. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Maybe. Depends. Just a little.</span><br />

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-3GUoOdAzslQ/U4KOPx2WcnI/AAAAAAAAIsU/Rmr1oXV0o8M/s1600/_DSC9329.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-3GUoOdAzslQ/U4KOPx2WcnI/AAAAAAAAIsU/Rmr1oXV0o8M/s1600/_DSC9329.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
My latest thrift store find is this beat up mahogany desk that had seen better days.<br />
The top was pretty scratched up, there was mold growing on the sides and what is an old barn fresh piece of furniture without a few mouse droppings.<br />
Everything that was wrong with it could easily be fixed.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-B_IXyY1hU3A/U4KONVpuQPI/AAAAAAAAIsM/C3IdK43q8GY/s1600/_DSC9332.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-B_IXyY1hU3A/U4KONVpuQPI/AAAAAAAAIsM/C3IdK43q8GY/s1600/_DSC9332.jpg" height="640" width="426" /></a></div>
I first sanded the top with my orbital sander and started with 80 grit sand paper.<br />
Then 120 grit<br />
Finished with 220.<br />
The top was smooth and perfect.<br />
I love being able to sand down a piece of furniture and see the original wood come through.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Sk_FkyoV-kg/U4KOQDwg-gI/AAAAAAAAIsY/8JTnUAE7Hfo/s1600/_DSC9334.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Sk_FkyoV-kg/U4KOQDwg-gI/AAAAAAAAIsY/8JTnUAE7Hfo/s1600/_DSC9334.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
I wiped it down reeeeaaaal gooooood.<br />
No I did not use a tack cloth, I am bad about that.<br />
But I did use my leaf blower to blow all the dust off.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FZEmkt0GbVQ/U4KOlq2d0gI/AAAAAAAAIsk/2qUSVJR0fKU/s1600/_DSC9336.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FZEmkt0GbVQ/U4KOlq2d0gI/AAAAAAAAIsk/2qUSVJR0fKU/s1600/_DSC9336.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I then stained the top with a mahogany stain. <br />
When I am staining I like to use an old t-shirt that has been cut up and folded, I feel like I have better control over how it is applied.<br />
I then use another piece of t-shirt to wipe of the excess. This is done several times to get any stain that has beaded up. <br />
This is an important step because if you do not remove the excess it will never completely dry and remain tacky.<br />
I know this because I have made the mistake.<br />
It will eventually dry I told myself. <br />
Never happened.<br />
<br />
After it has completely dried, about 24 hours, I bring it into the house to apply the top clear coat.<br />
By bringing it into the house I do not have to worry about Betty/Martha hair floating onto my perfect finish.<br />
<br />
I have started using General Finishes Gel Top Coat and I absolutely LOVE IT!<br />
You apply it with a rag and wipe it on. EASY PEASY with no dripping, bubbles, streaks nothing.<br />
Just love it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QViSl5KqJZI/U4KOoEdNo8I/AAAAAAAAIs0/S21avPr6-Sw/s1600/_DSC9343.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QViSl5KqJZI/U4KOoEdNo8I/AAAAAAAAIs0/S21avPr6-Sw/s1600/_DSC9343.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Once I have finished applying all the top coats I then start on the body of the piece.<br />
I painted this one with Country Grey by Annie Sloan Chalk Paint on the main porting of the piece and used Duck Egg Blue on the drawers.<br />
Sanded the paint by hand using 150 grit sanding block and finished it off with clear wax.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MrIcP1-Js2c/U4KOmLL7qdI/AAAAAAAAIss/HJ8cttgk_Tc/s1600/_DSC9367.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MrIcP1-Js2c/U4KOmLL7qdI/AAAAAAAAIss/HJ8cttgk_Tc/s1600/_DSC9367.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The refinished top makes it look like a brand new piece of furniture.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-o8C0CU-F5Cg/U4KPDGoo7_I/AAAAAAAAIs8/ynbufezlVEw/s1600/_DSC9369+(2).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-o8C0CU-F5Cg/U4KPDGoo7_I/AAAAAAAAIs8/ynbufezlVEw/s1600/_DSC9369+(2).jpg" height="640" width="426" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I was able to use the original hardware. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Always a bonus.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wpjJPwk_xJU/U4KPD7b7_PI/AAAAAAAAItE/HvISvP1AYQY/s1600/_DSC9369.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wpjJPwk_xJU/U4KPD7b7_PI/AAAAAAAAItE/HvISvP1AYQY/s1600/_DSC9369.jpg" height="640" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
And now it is finished and ready for a new home.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LuQCvu2sbfQ/U2-V_m1znvI/AAAAAAAAIpQ/7nvb6fclwPM/s1600/NC+Freestyle+States+2014+(1).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: justify;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LuQCvu2sbfQ/U2-V_m1znvI/AAAAAAAAIpQ/7nvb6fclwPM/s1600/NC+Freestyle+States+2014+(1).jpg" height="640" width="426" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My Mother's Day gift from my son Sam was a day spent with him while he competed in the North Carolina Freestyle Wrestling States in Mooresville, NC.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Getting up at 5:15am to drive to the tournament while he slept in the backseat. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Whenever we are getting ready to do any of these tournaments or anything really that requires my having to extract information from my 14yo son the conversation usually goes like this.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Me: Sam are you going to do the tournament? I need to know so that I can register you.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Sam: mnmnmmmmmcmcmmmcm (mumble mumble mumble)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Me: OK. How much do you weigh? I need to know so that I can put it on your registration. Weigh yourself at school so I can register you.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Sam: </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Me: SAM! Did you hear me? </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Sam: WHAT?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Me: Just do it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We have this conversation about 4 times prior to my registering him. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The thing is you have to know how much you weigh so that they know what weight class you are in. Most tournaments are so that if you do not make weight then you cannot wrestle. I did not want to drive all the way there and have him be .4 ounces over and then be sent home.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So we finally get the registration done and his weight class is 120lbs. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I keep reminding him to ask coach about a singlet. They need to have a specific singlets for this tournament..one red and one blue. Apparently this went in one ear and out the other without stopping in between because Friday night before we leave I ask him if he has a singlet.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
No. Realy kid? Seriously? We are leaving at 5:30am and it is 9:00PM on Friday night and you do not have a singlet? </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I text the coach and ask him if he has an extra, thankfully he does and will be at the match at 9:00am. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Saturday morning rolls around and he is getting ready to weigh in and finds out that he has to have a singlet on to weigh in and cannot wear is underwear like he was planned. Remember that weigh ins are at 8am and the coach will not be there until 9am.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Imagine that. Mom was right.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So he scrambled and borrowed one from someone else. And he stood in line.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And he weighed in. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
120.4 </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
He is over by .4 lbs and has 15 minutes to lose .4lbs.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1e87AMrnj5A/U2-akxoBSsI/AAAAAAAAIp0/-mj2dPb-DBI/s1600/IMG_20140510_080533%5B1%5D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1e87AMrnj5A/U2-akxoBSsI/AAAAAAAAIp0/-mj2dPb-DBI/s1600/IMG_20140510_080533%5B1%5D.jpg" height="640" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Let me tell you there is one place you DO NOT WANT TO BE and that is anywhere near the men's room. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
He managed to make weight in those 15 minutes and and registered at 119.7lbs.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I then ran to Hardee's and picked up 2 sausage biscuits.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fwzyRfzRQwg/U2-VVVxY6OI/AAAAAAAAIoM/K1VzUdf683w/s1600/NC+Freestyle+States+2014+(2).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fwzyRfzRQwg/U2-VVVxY6OI/AAAAAAAAIoM/K1VzUdf683w/s1600/NC+Freestyle+States+2014+(2).jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
His first match he won with a pin.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7b1Sz11Z1CA/U2-VaO6ibWI/AAAAAAAAIoY/XCACbYA2ijo/s1600/NC+Freestyle+States+2014+(3).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7b1Sz11Z1CA/U2-VaO6ibWI/AAAAAAAAIoY/XCACbYA2ijo/s1600/NC+Freestyle+States+2014+(3).jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
That is his coach in the yellow.<br />
Cracks me up with his body language.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-VO4bC8MlvHU/U2-VbBCYVwI/AAAAAAAAIoc/a1M22hrfjxA/s1600/NC+Freestyle+States+2014+(4).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-VO4bC8MlvHU/U2-VbBCYVwI/AAAAAAAAIoc/a1M22hrfjxA/s1600/NC+Freestyle+States+2014+(4).jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
Notice the red singlet.<br />
Borrowed.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9TVpE--fnFk/U2-VbYUZBII/AAAAAAAAIok/Ioh4e1oOKts/s1600/NC+Freestyle+States+2014+(5).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9TVpE--fnFk/U2-VbYUZBII/AAAAAAAAIok/Ioh4e1oOKts/s1600/NC+Freestyle+States+2014+(5).jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The other guy was winning with points.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Not for long...Sam pinned him.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-nL1MTfdu12U/U2-Vh3z7IvI/AAAAAAAAIo4/E-IYVEvrbJQ/s1600/NC+Freestyle+States+2014+(6).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-nL1MTfdu12U/U2-Vh3z7IvI/AAAAAAAAIo4/E-IYVEvrbJQ/s1600/NC+Freestyle+States+2014+(6).jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Second match.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-W9BSMTpv9Cg/U2-VgQg9EnI/AAAAAAAAIow/E4neIoFysu8/s1600/NC+Freestyle+States+2014+(7).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-W9BSMTpv9Cg/U2-VgQg9EnI/AAAAAAAAIow/E4neIoFysu8/s1600/NC+Freestyle+States+2014+(7).jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
Sam racked up the points.<br />
I won't even begin to explain how that is done.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MqSG6RCwjHs/U2-ViAvwW0I/AAAAAAAAIo8/rpj2HnrnHhU/s1600/NC+Freestyle+States+2014+(8).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MqSG6RCwjHs/U2-ViAvwW0I/AAAAAAAAIo8/rpj2HnrnHhU/s1600/NC+Freestyle+States+2014+(8).jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
He just ran up the points and won by a teck fall.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
That is when you have 10 more points that the other guy.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uRbtpPKyhdc/U2-VlZ7vRCI/AAAAAAAAIpI/EHUktBFrMvU/s1600/NC+Freestyle+States+2014+(9).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uRbtpPKyhdc/U2-VlZ7vRCI/AAAAAAAAIpI/EHUktBFrMvU/s1600/NC+Freestyle+States+2014+(9).jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
Kind of a mercy rule.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-y-nsh_lfcyg/U2-VRVJKUhI/AAAAAAAAIn4/NqcLFdc9Y5k/s1600/NC+Freestyle+States+2014+(10).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-y-nsh_lfcyg/U2-VRVJKUhI/AAAAAAAAIn4/NqcLFdc9Y5k/s1600/NC+Freestyle+States+2014+(10).jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
He won his second match.<br />
The third match will be for 1st place.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-q96H8oKUzcg/U2-VUGhfu2I/AAAAAAAAIoA/MeB-TNRLcuQ/s1600/NC+Freestyle+States+2014+(11).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-q96H8oKUzcg/U2-VUGhfu2I/AAAAAAAAIoA/MeB-TNRLcuQ/s1600/NC+Freestyle+States+2014+(11).jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
I know he could just taste that first place medal.<br />
He has never won one.<br />
<br />
His third match was against this guy and he was good.<br />
Strong.<br />
Sam did his flip thing he does when his foot gets picked. (he is in the blue this time)<br />
But it wasn't enough for the 1st place medal.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4z9uo0jqOd8/U3ANd26DiaI/AAAAAAAAIqE/RjPIBMxTd0Y/s1600/NC+Freestyle+States+2014+(16).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4z9uo0jqOd8/U3ANd26DiaI/AAAAAAAAIqE/RjPIBMxTd0Y/s1600/NC+Freestyle+States+2014+(16).jpg" height="640" width="424" /></a></div>
Second place at Freestyle States is nothing to sneeze at.<br />
He did awesome and I am so proud of him.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dw8TTg6gXsg/U2-V_3aJixI/AAAAAAAAIpU/r0OiY7tkd3s/s1600/NC+Freestyle+States+2014+(13).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dw8TTg6gXsg/U2-V_3aJixI/AAAAAAAAIpU/r0OiY7tkd3s/s1600/NC+Freestyle+States+2014+(13).jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
After he readjusted his nose from being seriously bent out of shape for losing that match he regained his sense of humor.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TI0W3mQxuis/U2-V_1m1IiI/AAAAAAAAIpY/QBmZMkmcGTE/s1600/NC+Freestyle+States+2014+(14).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TI0W3mQxuis/U2-V_1m1IiI/AAAAAAAAIpY/QBmZMkmcGTE/s1600/NC+Freestyle+States+2014+(14).jpg" height="640" width="426" /></a></div>
Harrison's dad thought he was being funny.<br />
I laughed.<br />

All adjectives that do not describe the wonders of a root canal.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-cGum4QliOYk/SuT8UmFRT7I/AAAAAAAAAWE/AqaZYMCN3IU/s1600/Sam+and+Carter-7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-cGum4QliOYk/SuT8UmFRT7I/AAAAAAAAAWE/AqaZYMCN3IU/s1600/Sam+and+Carter-7.jpg" height="400" width="265" /></a></div>
<br />

<br />
I am a chicken when it comes to anything dental.<br />
The word dental work and dentist (sorry Dr. Shannon Butler) I associate with torture. If I were ever captured and held hostage, threatened with dental work to make me talk I would sing like a canary. Disclaimer: Dr. Butler is not my dentist.<br />
<br />
Shots for a root canal in the palate....OUCH!<br />
No, I am not okay. THAT HURT!<br />
<br />
But don't you just love it when you are laid back with 3 different tools in your mouth and they ask you "Are you doing okay?" <br />
Ummm...uhhhuihhh?<br />
I should have memorized Morse Code like the Jeremiah Denton when he was a POW and blinked T-O-R-T-U-R-E.<br />
Ya, that would have come in handy.<br />
<br />
Oh and then when the hygienist and the doctor and talking back and forth and you are dying to interject....<br />
Being that I could not say anything I am saying it now.<br />
<br />
NO it is not okay that your 36 year old brother in law is still living with his parents. He should move out. His parents should kick him out. WHAT are they THINKING.<br />
<br />
Dentist"You doing okay?<br />
Me: Uh, i ckanot beath.<br />
Dentist:You're doing great.<br />
<br />
<br />
Threatening your 9 year old daughter that if she does not start behaving you are not going to let her have a birthday party? REALLY.<br />
I am strict, but that is just mean.<br />
<br />
Dentist: Do you need suctioning?<br />
Me: Blinking my eyes frantically<br />
Dentist: Don't want to water-board you here. Are you doing okay?<br />
Me: Smile. At least I think I smiled. It may have come across as a sneer but both with work.<br />
<br />
Having the dentist describing the dental conference and new burs coming out and having your engineer husband describe it as a nerd fest. I have an engineer for a husband too! They have a lot of nerve describing a dental convention and nerdy...pot/kettle. Honestly.<br />
<br />
Dentist: We are going to clean this out, drill this, cram something in your tooth. It is going to smell funny but that is just all the gunk. Of course this is not what she said but that is what I am hearing.<br />
Me: Smile/Sneer<br />
Dentist: You doing okay?<br />
<br />
I am looking forward to hitting the land of Lewis Carol and ignoring the pain that has entered my mouth. But then again it was not nearly as bad as when I was out of the chair and met the receptionist and she handed my bill.<br />
Torture I tell you . Torture.<br />

<span style="background-color: white; color: #181818; font-family: georgia, serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 18px;">“I wonder if I've been changed in the night. Let me think. Was I the same when I got up this morning? I almost think I can remember feeling a little different. But if I'm not the same, the next question is 'Who in the world am I?' Ah, that's the great puzzle!” </span><br />

</div>
Turning eleven years old is a big deal!<br />
Especially if you are the one whose birthday it is.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4PoWabh31is/U1V9Go3SJaI/AAAAAAAAImk/yCzPj2hA874/s1600/_DSC9010.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4PoWabh31is/U1V9Go3SJaI/AAAAAAAAImk/yCzPj2hA874/s1600/_DSC9010.jpg" height="640" width="426" /></a></div>
Some how at this age, and younger the birthday turns into a birth week.<br />
With his dad being out of town the week of his big day it ended up being celebrated with a cake and gifts a week later.<br />
He was a trooper and waited without complaint on opening his gifts.<br />
The other two chittlins would have never done that without making a lot of noise.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9Lzkwlw6eEE/U1V9Fw7R8GI/AAAAAAAAImc/HSIjFnxIo_8/s1600/_DSC9011.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9Lzkwlw6eEE/U1V9Fw7R8GI/AAAAAAAAImc/HSIjFnxIo_8/s1600/_DSC9011.jpg" height="640" width="426" /></a></div>
But that is Carter.<br />
Always concerned about making it easier for others and not being a bother.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-28GtmQNYG6k/U1V9LT4C6bI/AAAAAAAAIms/Tvyd7-L4eaU/s1600/_DSC9012.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-28GtmQNYG6k/U1V9LT4C6bI/AAAAAAAAIms/Tvyd7-L4eaU/s1600/_DSC9012.jpg" height="640" width="426" /></a></div>
His God Father Mr. Primeau hooked him up with an awesome t-shirt, he thought this was very cool. <br />
My little rocker who can name 70's and 80's rock bands and make his dad so proud.<br />
My youngest who asks for a cross necklace and makes his mom's heart melt.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eGsWyY1Dnt8/U1V9SNXJNII/AAAAAAAAIm0/LWcBzTP0FCM/s1600/_DSC9013.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eGsWyY1Dnt8/U1V9SNXJNII/AAAAAAAAIm0/LWcBzTP0FCM/s1600/_DSC9013.jpg" height="640" width="426" /></a></div>
My youngest who keeps checking to see if he has passed me up in height, a battle I am quickly losing.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1-OekZOCEn4/U1V9RCSX9eI/AAAAAAAAIm4/u_23RR5NqTM/s1600/_DSC9014+(2).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1-OekZOCEn4/U1V9RCSX9eI/AAAAAAAAIm4/u_23RR5NqTM/s1600/_DSC9014+(2).jpg" height="640" width="426" /></a></div>
One thing is for sure though, he will ALWAYS be my baby.<br />

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-08l7mSZc078/U1RWRAaGZQI/AAAAAAAAIlk/Of7-3IUJqis/s1600/_DSC9034.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-08l7mSZc078/U1RWRAaGZQI/AAAAAAAAIlk/Of7-3IUJqis/s1600/_DSC9034.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Easter weekend.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Is it bad that I love Holidays that don't require a lot of planning?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I had originally planned on having a small dinner at home and it was just going to be the 5 of us.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-uHqroVDohkE/U1RVxhEub7I/AAAAAAAAIkQ/ihnZoJoQe0U/s1600/_DSC9015.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-uHqroVDohkE/U1RVxhEub7I/AAAAAAAAIkQ/ihnZoJoQe0U/s1600/_DSC9015.jpg" height="640" width="426" /></a></div>
Ham, scalloped potatoes, green bean casserole, kale and brussell sprouts.<br />
And Jello.<br />
Is it just me or does Jello go hand in hand with Easter?<br />
It was all pretty simple which is a good thing.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gwlKyV9tvs0/U1RVzRfxmfI/AAAAAAAAIkc/ydWuleXYrfA/s1600/_DSC9017.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gwlKyV9tvs0/U1RVzRfxmfI/AAAAAAAAIkc/ydWuleXYrfA/s1600/_DSC9017.jpg" height="640" width="426" /></a></div>
My in-laws called on Thursday and said they were heading to Asheville for Easter.<br />
Great!<br />
Of course I did not have a bit of food in the house.<br />
And my house was a mess!<br />
It is quite impressive just how fast one can clean a house when there is a time limit!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9wXiXLoyrgw/U1RV8QqERiI/AAAAAAAAIko/EOA2z3DqCnM/s1600/_DSC9018.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9wXiXLoyrgw/U1RV8QqERiI/AAAAAAAAIko/EOA2z3DqCnM/s1600/_DSC9018.jpg" height="640" width="426" /></a></div>
But Friday things changed.<br />
I woke up with a bugger of a toothache.<br />
A big ol' oh my goodness this hurts like nothing I have ever felt before toothache.<br />
<br />
And of course Friday the dentist office is closed.<br />
I hated to call him on his day off.<br />
But considering I had been up since 2:45am it took a lot of will power to wait until 7:30am to give him a call.<br />
He met me at the office at 9am and my 9:15am I had confirmation of what I pretty much already knew. Abscess and a root canal were in my future.<br />
RATS!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Nl7X5XW5iqs/U1RV9j1YIeI/AAAAAAAAIkw/Yi8kI8nZVPQ/s1600/_DSC9019.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Nl7X5XW5iqs/U1RV9j1YIeI/AAAAAAAAIkw/Yi8kI8nZVPQ/s1600/_DSC9019.jpg" height="640" width="426" /></a></div>
So he loaded me up with Amoxicillin and Oxycodone.<br />
Every four hours.<br />
I have been trying to not miss a dose.<br />
It hurts when I do.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-T2LmRkMCsHU/U1RV-NALkfI/AAAAAAAAIk0/UXx-zFWbHXA/s1600/_DSC9020.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-T2LmRkMCsHU/U1RV-NALkfI/AAAAAAAAIk0/UXx-zFWbHXA/s1600/_DSC9020.jpg" height="640" width="426" /></a></div>
Dinner plans were changed for Friday night.<br />
It was thought best not to take me to a fancy shmancy restaurant 3 sheets to the wind on pain medication.<br />
I wonder what they thought would happen?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-h4XdiLDv0rw/U1RWDmx9IMI/AAAAAAAAIlA/zh5oiF0kcBY/s1600/_DSC9021.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-h4XdiLDv0rw/U1RWDmx9IMI/AAAAAAAAIlA/zh5oiF0kcBY/s1600/_DSC9021.jpg" height="640" width="426" /></a></div>
But with the rain all day Saturday we hung close to home and this was a good thing.<br />
We did make most of the food for Easter dinner ahead of time.<br />
And I did take lots of naps.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7NsGolfdG2A/U1RWIo-IqqI/AAAAAAAAIlM/aqrugV6g7tY/s1600/_DSC9023.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7NsGolfdG2A/U1RWIo-IqqI/AAAAAAAAIlM/aqrugV6g7tY/s1600/_DSC9023.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
Church on Sunday morning was nice.<br />
Unfortunately I did not take my meds prior to heading to church.<br />
Thought maybe it may not leave a good impression with my looking stoned during church.<br />
Wish I had.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OLOhPlkI68g/U1RWIEjuMnI/AAAAAAAAIlI/f8aF_w5Vhr0/s1600/_DSC9025.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OLOhPlkI68g/U1RWIEjuMnI/AAAAAAAAIlI/f8aF_w5Vhr0/s1600/_DSC9025.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
But we have had a nice visit with my in-laws.<br />
They are easy to be around.<br />
It always cracks me up when people give me that odd look when I tell them my in-laws are coming for a visit.<br />
I have to correct them by saying..no, it is okay. I like my in-laws.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-USyY7YiUnfU/U1RWKgs_UXI/AAAAAAAAIlY/0AkbeL8M8So/s1600/_DSC9031.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-USyY7YiUnfU/U1RWKgs_UXI/AAAAAAAAIlY/0AkbeL8M8So/s1600/_DSC9031.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

So Happy Easter from the Virginia and North Carolina Mosby's<br />

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1HHAvP_OfMs/U08BydjQPVI/AAAAAAAAIjg/aP5FyrMrKSQ/s1600/_DSC7820.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1HHAvP_OfMs/U08BydjQPVI/AAAAAAAAIjg/aP5FyrMrKSQ/s1600/_DSC7820.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
I've been sitting here looking through the pictures on my laptop.<br />
It took me about 2 minutes to get through them all if that long.<br />
I have been taking a lot of useless photos on my cell phone.<br />
Crappy photos actually.<br />
Snapping pics and putting them on Instagram or on FB.<br />
<br />
It is just so easy and I don't have to lug around my big camera.<br />
Well, because if that I have very few pics from the last year and half.<br />
<br />
I must rectify this.<br />
This has to change.<br />
<br />
I am not keeping up my end of the bargain of irritating the crap out of my kids, insisting that they smile for the camera.<br />
<br />
I have a photo from when my mom and I went to D.C. when I was 13yo. I can still hear her saying..."stand over there in front of that monument and smile". By the time we were done with that vacation I was ready to hurl that 110 camera into the Potomac River. There were just one too many photos of monuments growing out of my head.<br />
<br />
These pictures are from almost a year ago on the day we brought Betty home. Oh my gosh she was so little and cute!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-D9Fbkci2-QM/U08By_1z8gI/AAAAAAAAIjk/QozzOw1l_jE/s1600/_DSC7822.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-D9Fbkci2-QM/U08By_1z8gI/AAAAAAAAIjk/QozzOw1l_jE/s1600/_DSC7822.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
And OzMan. Miss that darn cat so much.<br />
Now we have Sometimes Cat.<br />
Sometimes he is here, sometimes he is at work.<br />
Sometimes he is nice, sometimes he is mean as a snake.<br />
Sometimes I like him, sometimes not so much.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5vthMj9dIZc/U08By70bQxI/AAAAAAAAIjo/5EyPWPc1F80/s1600/_DSC7823.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5vthMj9dIZc/U08By70bQxI/AAAAAAAAIjo/5EyPWPc1F80/s1600/_DSC7823.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
I will start taking more pictures.<br />
My kids will be thrilled.Need A Latte Momhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14021257952099996666noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5643498933918827095.post-89115455711798103572014-04-15T21:39:00.001-04:002014-04-15T21:39:24.401-04:00Spring Break <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rGz7XkfsPas/U03azTKWApI/AAAAAAAAIiQ/b4LaB5XOOJk/s1600/_DSC8908.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rGz7XkfsPas/U03azTKWApI/AAAAAAAAIiQ/b4LaB5XOOJk/s1600/_DSC8908.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
I am such a terrible mom.<br />
I forced my kids to get outside on spring break.<br />
Made them play disc golf for the afternoon, breath in fresh air and get a little exercise.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2SAM4v3Pj2Y/U03axRMLSQI/AAAAAAAAIiI/iA3Enzj6hjQ/s1600/_DSC8909.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2SAM4v3Pj2Y/U03axRMLSQI/AAAAAAAAIiI/iA3Enzj6hjQ/s1600/_DSC8909.jpg" height="640" width="426" /></a></div>
These two didn't hit par many times if any but they played with some style.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Carter gave up on disc golf a while ago. He prefers to ride his bike and occasionally ends up being the caddy.<br />

Betty thoroughly enjoyed running around like the ninny that she is.<br />
Unfortunately I forgot to bring treats to "encourage" her to come when called.<br />
This girl needs some more home schoolin and I am slacking on that big time.<br />
She was very intrigued with the discs and kept trying to retrieve them or should I say snag them and run away with them. Retrieving is not in her vocabulary.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Besides riding his bike he will throw in a tree here and there.<br />

Open your eyes Carter...it's the sun!<br />
I know you have locked yourself in your room becoming one with your ds/computer/ipod but it is time to enter the world.<br />

Fast.<br />
I am beginning to wonder if I will get anything done. What I need to get done and what I want to get done are probably two different things.<br />
<br />
Christmas cards are done. Correction. The Christmas cards are addressed but they just needs stamps.<br />
I have not had time to go to the post office. I know there are people that would say "why do them, why add more to your plate?"<br />
Well it is Christmas and it is what you do. Plus I like getting Christmas cards.<br />
<br />
The tree is up and it is pretty. It does need a topper, a star or an Angel. Something. I will get to it soon.<br />
Maybe. The kids (Carter) would like to see something up there, it has been mentioned a few times.<br />
<br />
The mantle is adorned with Nutcrackers and is in dire need of a wreath.<br />
I have determined that it is not going to get one.<br />
<br />
I did accomplish lots this weekend. Laundry. Many loads of laundry.<br />
Laundry is the epitome of shoveling snow before the blizzard has ended.<br />
<br />
Oh, and it was my husbands birthday so I was able to make dinner...and Sophia made the cake.<br />
<br />
I cleaned the bathroom, kinda. It needed a new shower rod and after driving to two different stores to buy a true tension rod shower curtain holder that does not fall down I discovered that they do not exist. The one I brought home to replace the one I have was broken. Now I will be toting a broken shower rod in my car in hopes that I remember to return it.<br />
<br />
I would love to get cookies made sometime before Christmas but I guess if I don't actually get them done I will save myself 10 lbs.<br />
<br />
I was asked if I had made my Christmas list? Really? The last thing on my mind is what I want for Christmas. Right now I am way more concerned that I can figure out what to get my kids and husband and when I am actually going to get it done.<br />
Between wrestling practice and matches, swim practice and meets, violin practice, making sure there is actually food in the house to eat, laundry...oh so much laundry. Cleaning and ridding the house of the dog fur that is exploding around me.<br />
<br />
Why do dogs shed so much? I mean really. Why?<br />
<br />
I did hire a housekeeper. The first time she came was great but then it has quickly deteriorated. The last time she came to the house she must have had been a REAL hurry. Not only was it a poor cleaning job but she left the the door open and Betty took that as a clear invitation to come in and eat and chew everything she could reach.<br />
I decided to have a talk with her about the issues I was having and go over theses things on her next visit. She canceled.<br />
<br />
So now I am feeling guilty telling her that I don't want her to come any more. Go figure.<br />
<br />
My husband says I need to find something that makes me happy. Less stressed.<br />
<br />
I know.....give me more hours in the day and I will spend some time figuring out what that is. Until the I don't have time.<br />
<br />

<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4AI4VxWd7ZM/UqUnsYwJLeI/AAAAAAAAIaY/BqZof56MY9U/s1600/_DSC8599.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4AI4VxWd7ZM/UqUnsYwJLeI/AAAAAAAAIaY/BqZof56MY9U/s640/_DSC8599.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
This weekend has been spent at Christmas Concerts and violin performances.<br />
<br />
Pressed khakis and ties.<br />
<br />
Singing Silent Night and Jingle Bells.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-trgq2o0PgAw/UqUpBHP--bI/AAAAAAAAIaw/hsaCtzzXwlw/s1600/_DSC8601.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-trgq2o0PgAw/UqUpBHP--bI/AAAAAAAAIaw/hsaCtzzXwlw/s640/_DSC8601.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
If going to an elementary school Christmas program doesn't put you into the Christmas spirit I don't think anything will.<br />
<br />
Asheville Christian Academy put on a beautiful production. What children are capable of doing when given the opportunity and support is just amazing.<br />
<br />
After we finished the Christmas concert on Friday we had the violin concert on Sunday.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pG36GKhg26Y/UqUqI1Y0NZI/AAAAAAAAIbE/pbj5fuO3uF4/s1600/_DSC8613.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pG36GKhg26Y/UqUqI1Y0NZI/AAAAAAAAIbE/pbj5fuO3uF4/s640/_DSC8613.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Little bitty guys to the big guys.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/EwsGxhe2kQ4?feature=player_embedded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div>
<br />
<br />
For now the tree is up.<br />
<br />
The house is a disaster.<br />
<br />
And I need to make Christmas cookies and send my Christmas cards.<br />

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nPXKx0OiSog/UplF1R-mjmI/AAAAAAAAIZE/izwV87ZMdoo/s1600/3+Gen+of+Mosby.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="468" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nPXKx0OiSog/UplF1R-mjmI/AAAAAAAAIZE/izwV87ZMdoo/s640/3+Gen+of+Mosby.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
The day after Thanksgiving usually meant an oyster roast at my husband's ex-wife's home.<br />
Yes that is weird but we will not go into it.<br />
It is a strange conversation that needs to be saved for a few beers.<br />
Anyhoo....we would go over to her house for a big oyster roast Friday after Thanksgiving but they have since stopped the big feast.<br />
But I am digressing.<br />
Oysters. YUM!<br />
Steamed oysters with cocktail sauce and melted butter.<br />
Oh, and beer. <br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Eventually you stumble across a crab.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A sweet little crab that you tell your son that he has to eat because it is super sweet and tastes like crab.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
He does end up looking at you a little weird, but he eats it.</div>
