Staying Cool, Redneck Style

The weather starting to cool down fast here in Virginia I needed something to remind me of just how hot it was this summer. These pictures were taken on the Rapidan River this summer and it was one of those perfect days. Don't get me wrong, it was HOT!  I think we were pushing 100 degrees but it did not feel that while we were sitting in the river. Friends of ours have this great piece of property, 5 acres along the river. No electricity, no running water and a port-a-potty brought in for the party.

Yes, Wendy is doing what you think she is doing. Can't you see me blush?
From Each Day....
This is us sitting in the river, redneck style. I cannot tell you just how wonderfully comfortable it was.

This is Becky. The hostess with the mostess? Cheesy, I know. But she is fun stuff!
From Each Day....

Becky is taking her job very seriously. Becky is funny....silly Becky.
From Each Day....
But then she is married to this guy!  I am seeing a boob thing working here.

The kids were up the river providing them selves with a mud spa....they do tend to make the blue eyes pop.
From Each Day....

They provided full body mud packs. They asked us if we wanted to partake, we graciously declined.
From Each Day....

The entertianment was very enjoyable. I loved watching Joe play with his father.

Again, my husband is a happy man....barley pop and a cigar with live music. Doesn't get much better than that.

Happy Halloween!

From Each Day....
Carving pumpkins.
I pretty much  dreaded the annual carving of the gourd.
The crying.   The whining.  Throw in a little fighting and you can see why I dreaded the event that always resulted in a huge mess.
But it has finally gotten better. I guess it is because they are older and can finally carve their own pumpkins. In the past my husband and I ended up doing all the carving and for a few years we did not even carve them just left the whole. I like that, then I could use them all the way to Thanksgiving. Sometimes they lasted that long without rotting.

They started doing the scraping of the guts...that is the part they hate to do. Why I do not know because they do play with lots of gross stuff.  I finished the scraping, if I hadn't we would still be sitting in the driveway.

Martha was just really glad we were outside with her. She did not care what we were doing. She would have preferred it involve food but was not going to complain.

Road Trip to Disney!

The Mosby's hit Disney earlier this month and hit it hard we did. We drove to Orlando (13hours) and stayed in a house with my mother and father in-laws, 2 sister in-laws, husbands and kids. Universal Studios, Magic Kingdom and Epcot in 3 days.

There are a few things that I learned on this trip.

 1. Pack a cooler of food and drinks and rent a stroller. So very worth it so you will not have to eat greasy park food.

2. My kids can make is a total of 26 hours in a car without ever asking for their Nintendo DS's.

3. I get motion sick and almost every ride....Dramamine is my friend.

4. Epcot sells beer. I like Epcot.

5. At least one of my children will get sick when they are with their Aunt Amy and Uncle Ted.

6. Cell phones are great at the parks....great way to stay in touch with everyone.

7.You can walk around with a really stupid looking hats and no one will give you a second look.

8.Do not buy your tickets on Craig's List.....really long story that I just as soon forget.

9. We do not get together as a family often enough!

Bike Games in Bardstown

Bike Games.
Grown ups behaving like little kids, that is what we did while on vacation in Bardstown.
One of the games is a race to the finish, but the trick is to go as slowly as possible. The last one to cross the line wins. Mike on the bicycle thinks he's being funny. What is not so funny is that about 3 weeks later he did a "hey honey, watch this" and attempted to do a wheelie, fell and blew his knee out. Big Kids.

Something fun.....the audience watching the games.

This is Bobby and I getting ready for the bite the weenie. A hot dog, with a fork stuck in it hanging on a string. the object of the game was to get the biggest bite of the hot dog without stopping the bike or putting you feet down. To spare myself the embarrassment I will only show this photo.
From Each Day....
Here we are getting ready for the next race. I have to hold a board over Bob's head with glasses of water lined up. While holding the board over Bob's head he has to ride over boards that are "bumps' in the road.

From Each Day....
Our friend Jill from Minnesota was in a bike accident about a month before the reunion. She broke her collar bone and had to have surgery. Needless to say she didn't ride her bike to Kentucky...it was a plane ride for her. I snuck into her room and took a picture of her pile of pillows she had to use to prop herself up all night.
From Each Day....

That is all I got.
Until next time....
