An Afternoon in Chimney Rock

A couple weekend ago Bob, Carter and I went to Chimney Rock on the bikes. It was such a beautiful day so of course this tiny little town was hopping. Bikes everywhere. The road from our house to Chimney rock is a twisty thing so it attracts a lot of bikes. We had a nice  lunch at Medina's and then went across the street to get ice cream. Unfortunately they did not accept CC and we had no cash. No Cash = No ice cream.

So instead of ice cream we went down to the river and hopped rocks for a little while.

Carter is trying to decide if he can make the jump.

The body language is so similar between these two.

Like father, like son. He also does the same thing with his mouth that his dad does when he is thinking.

Carter didn't do too bad taking the picture. Can you see the fear in my face worrying that he would drop it in the river.

This is a sign that was on one of the stores. Someone REALLY need to explain to them just how wrong this is. Or maybe that was their plan. 

Bike Games in Bardstown

Bike Games.
Grown ups behaving like little kids, that is what we did while on vacation in Bardstown.
One of the games is a race to the finish, but the trick is to go as slowly as possible. The last one to cross the line wins. Mike on the bicycle thinks he's being funny. What is not so funny is that about 3 weeks later he did a "hey honey, watch this" and attempted to do a wheelie, fell and blew his knee out. Big Kids.

This is Bobby and I getting ready for the bite the weenie. A hot dog, with a fork stuck in it hanging on a string. the object of the game was to get the biggest bite of the hot dog without stopping the bike or putting you feet down. To spare myself the embarrassment I will only show this photo.

Here we are getting ready for the next race. I have to hold a board over Bob's head with glasses of water lined up. While holding the board over Bob's head he has to ride over boards that are "bumps' in the road.

Our friend Jill from Minnesota was in a bike accident about a month before the reunion. She broke her collar bone and had to have surgery. Needless to say she didn't ride her bike to Kentucky...it was a plane ride for her. I snuck into her room and took a picture of her pile of pillows she had to use to prop herself up all night.

D.B.Bryant Band Live at Marty Gras

This past weekend my husband and I rode our bikes to Jeannette, PA for the 8th or 10th annual Marty Gras celebration. Marty throws a big 'ol bash to celebrate his birthday and this is the first year I have been able to make the event. My husband has attended several and has raved about how amazing it is and that I have got to go next year.
This is Marty and Cindy....our host and hostess. They are such a cute couple and you are right Marty, she is pretty hot.

Friday night is the casual hang out night in the garage. In the garage you say? Yup.
A much smaller group and the  D.B.Bryant Band from Possum Hollow, South Carolina plays accustic. Saturday night is the BIG BASH and Pitzers. Marty does his BBQ for about 150 people and DB Bryant plays again. WOW what a show. Is there really a Possum Hollow?  I don't know if there really is a Posssum Hollow but is sounds pretty good if you are a southern rock band, don't you think? This man can play a mean guitar.

Sunday Ride

The scenario: The temperature was almost 50 degrees and the snow is slowly melting. The kids have been home for nine days and I was starting to go a little bonkers. My husband was out in the garage putting together the basketball hoop that we Santa brought my daughter for Christmas. He was in the Left Brain mode. Focused. Methodical. Get 'er done mode. He gets like that, he is an engineer, he is Left Brain. So when I went out in the garage hopping from foot to foot saying lets go for a ride, huh, huh, wanna go for a ride. Let's go right now. Can we? Can we? And his response was "give me a half hour".  I felt like the kid who just lost his kite in the tree. Boy he must be focused because when it comes to riding he is like an addict, he will look for any excuse to ride any time of the year. Well two minutes later he came in wanting to go for a ride...hehehe, he is sooo easy! The planning: There always has to be a plan. I am always surprised that my DH does not pull out an actual written check list but then he may just have it memorized. Focused. Methodical. When I ride I like to know that there is a destination in mind whether it be a landmark, park or preferably a Starbucks thats all. I am happy with that. We picked our destination, somewhere close because we I knew it was going to get cold fast. My husband has the heated gear. Electric heated jacket, gloves and heated grips. Along with the pants, full face helmet...yada, yada, yada.  I have, hold on to your shorts, the long underwear I used to wear in middle school when I went skiing.  My daughter is actually wearing them now and I had to dig them out from under her bed.   The ride: It was clear, bright and actually pretty warm for December 27th, almost 50 degrees. Let me tell you though, that sun goes behind the trees and it is COLD! Even after dodging the occasional chunks of ice, the large broken jar, sand and gravel from the salt truck it was a nice ride. What we did see though was a HUGE BALD EAGLE. He had just swooped down in front of us grabbing something in his talons and then flew along side of us. How cool it that! We were gone for about an hour and a half.  A nice little break. We got home and the kids had not killed each other so that was a bonus.   And I turned 1000 miles on my bike. Yippee. Go me!
